Met Lou on through tennis about 30 years ago. Many good times on the court with Lou berating himself while teasing me. Many fond memories of camping. Lou was always funny and full of life. He was a virtual encyclopedia of musical history. I shall always remember him as one of best friends. May he Rest In Peace. Lee Cox

I met Lou when we were both 21 years old and working at K-Mart. You couldn't help but to notice Lou as he was always larger than life with his wonderful smile, booming voice (which would grab your attention) and his vast knowledge of so many topics.
Lou's biggest loves were his Tennis first and his music a close second. Our house was always filled with music from his incredible collection of albums, from country to classical and literally everything in between.
I always loved and cherished Lou's family as they were very similar to my own.
Together we shared a good life for 20 years raising are two precious children (Tracy and Jon) and then remained very close friends for the next 20 plus years still always spending time as a family for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Birthdays, etc.
One of our last and favorite dinners together as a family was at DeVino Rossi's (Tracy's Birthday in November 2021). Lou absolutely loved it! We sat at the best table at the front of the restaurant next to the piano player. I can't tell you how many times he told me what a "wonderful" time he had. A wonderful memory for us to cherish always.
Rest in Peace Dear Lou!
Love always,
Brigitte

The first time Tracy introduced me to her father he got excited. He said “Trace he looks like that guy from The Band!”
I wasn’t clear on which one it was, I hoped it was Robbie Robertson for obvious reasons.
Right then I knew he was a music lover. We talked about everybody from The Grateful Dead to Madonna to Nine inch Nails. I found out later Lou had taken Tracy to shows i never was allowed to go to.
Lou was a News Hound and loved to “discuss” news or politics with everyone. I think probably with his brother George more than anyone else.
He was a Gamecock through and through. He knew as much about the Football team as he did about the Women's tennis team.
Out of all the things that I knew Lou Garza was passionate about, his family and friends were at the top of the list.
He was one of a kind. I’m grateful that he was in my life, and I was able to call him Uncle Lou and a friend.

Uncle Lou, thank you for all of the memories, for always thinking of me and my family, and always having my back in an argument. I wish we could all go to the beach one last time.

I first met Lou Garza back in the 70s when my brother and I would play tennis at Ft. Jackson and the same group of guys kept showing up at the same courts. They would laugh, joke, cuss, drink beer and play for hours. One guy named Lou was particularly loud and absolutely hilarious. We started playing tennis together and remained great friends over the next fifty years.
Lou was not only one of the funniest people I've ever met but also one of the most intelligent. He was quite the athlete back in the day (a "tennis god" by his own account) but over time I came to appreciate his intellect, his sensitivity, and his depth as a human being. He had a wide variety of interests that included sports, literature, history, politics - but his true love was music. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of all genres from rock to jazz to classical to country. We spent many an hour listening to tunes and discussing the merits of various artists, groups, and composers (mostly Lou talking and me listening).
So music was generally the topic of conversation on our many drives up to NC for camping trips. Lou loved the out of doors but especially the beauty of the mountains and the camaraderie of hanging with his friends by the campfire. Lou snored so loud we often had to make him sleep in his car, but I know we'll all treasure the memories of camping with Lou for as long as we live.
It is said that the true measure of a man is revealed in how he handles adversity and challenge. Even as Lou's health declined over the last few years, he never lost his sense of humor, his zest for life, or his love for family and friends. While we mourn his passing, we celebrate his life and are glad that he was part of ours.
Go in peace, my brother.

Having played with your dad over several years back in the old Ft Jackson Tennis Club days, I agree. He was a great tennis player and a friend. We all kind of idolized Lou, he was funny, had a great forehand, and absolutely hated to lose.

Lou, I can still hear you saying - on one of those famous camping trips - “Don’t worry about the mule, you just load up the wagon”… such fun days those were. Godspeed, Lou. Glad you are where pain and sorrow are no more… Pat Brandon
