Obituary of Anne Marie Horton Powlas

Anne Marie Horton Powlas of Lexington, SC, departed this life for glory on March 12, 2022.  She was born in 1952 at Baptist Hospital in Columbia. She had been in declining health for several weeks.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Edith Horton.  She is survived by her husband of over 47 years, John David Powlas; her sister, Karen Melton (Johnny) of Danville, Virginia; her brother, Alan Horton (Laurie) of Sugar Land, Texas; her aunts, Dorothy Whitman of West Columbia, Janice Holt of Gilbert, and Rhonda Amick of Chapin; as well as several nieces and nephews, Megan Horton, April Giaffis (James), Isaiah Giaffis, Maggie Grace Giaffis, Conner Giaffis, Joshua Powlas, Jamie Melton, Olivia Anne Melton, Jonathan Melton (Kerrie), Rylie Gayle Melton, Carrie Anne Mundie (Justin), Owen Kate Mundie, and Harrison Mundie. Even though she had no children of her own, she was a “mother” to so many.  She dearly loved children of all ages, especially her nieces and nephews and their children.

Anne retired from South Carolina Farm Bureau in 2017.  She enjoyed singing, crossword puzzles, games, watching vintage TV shows, and always enjoyed time spent with family making treasured memories.  She had a remarkable memory and could be relied upon to recall the smallest details of any family gathering no matter how many years in the past. Anne was a member of the Airport Church of Christ, and loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, mind and strength.  For many years she taught children’s Bible classes and hosted children’s gatherings in her home. Anne was dearly loved.

A memorial service for Anne will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC.
