I planned to join the band for the first time after Mr. Wilson and members of his current middle school band visited my elementary school near the end of the school year in 1977. I was later diagnosed with a serious medical issue that summer and found out I would be missing the first several weeks of middle school. My Mom and I spoke with Mr. Wilson and he assured me that he would save me a spot in the band for when my treatment was completed. Mr. Wilson then worked with me after school to help catch me up to the rest of the new band members when I finally completed my treatment. He fast became a close friend of me and my family and that friendship continued into my adulthood. He was always fun to be around – he had a great sense of humor and could be a practical joker at times. I could never thank him enough for his kindness, positive attitude, expertise and friendship. It is sad he has completed his time here, but I hope it is comforting to his family to know that he positively impacted my life in so many ways and I am sure there are hundreds (likely more) of other students that feel the same way.

As my band director I can honestly say that he changed my life, and perhaps even saved it. As a poor, dyslexic, and unruly child, he took special time to teach me, and help me stay in school. His military style band prepared me for the military. Joining the USN at age 17, I could march, keep a perfect uniform, and shine my shoes like a pro, because of him. I was elated when I found a few years ago that he was my daughter's music teacher at Lake Murray Elementary. HE WAS A GREAT TEACHER,THE BEST! RIP, Mr. Wilson, and thank you so much.

I just want to pass on my condolences to Henry's family. He was a very good friend of my family since the late 70's and taught my brother how to play the trumpet. Henry also performed at my wedding and did such an excellent job that my dad even mentioned him in a poem he wrote about the wedding. I will keep his family in my prayers.

Condolences to Henry's sister and other family members. All three of my children were in band with Mr. Wilson, and I also worked with Henry at White Knoll Elementary School. He was a wonderful band director and wanted the best for his students. He was also a wonderful person who cared about others. May God give your family His peace.

I had the pleasure of being his student in elementary school in 1990 and still have the best memories of such a talented teacher, musician, and friend Henry was. He will be greatly missed yet his legacy will continue through the thousands of lives he touched.

Oh Uncle Henry. You were one of a kind. The times when you would take my mother down the street to get Rona Barrett's Gossip and Hollywood. When you disguised your voice and called Roto-Rooter to complain there was a peach tree growing in the toilet and when you used it, it would tickle you. The countless trips to JB White to see Martha. The times you would go over to Grandma Gates and take her a big breakfast platter from McDonald's on weekend mornings and wake her up when she didn't eat breakfast. Your love for Barbra and your extensive memorabilia collection, as well as her concerts we attended. So many family memories. Now you have been reunited with many in our family. No misty, watercolored memories here. Until next time.....
