Obituary of Luther Vinson, Jr.

Luther Vinson Jr., 94, of West Columbia, SC passed away February 5, 2022 at his home, surrounded by family.  He was born November 16, 1927 in Lancaster, SC to the late Luther Vinson Sr. and Effie Ethel Bradley Vinson.  He served in the US Army as a Sergeant in the Korean War, retired from DuPont May Plant of Camden, SC and was a member of Shandon Baptist Church.

Luther is survived by his daughters, Brenda Vicente and Jane Chavis (Chuck); daughter-in-law, Rita Vinson; sons, Timothy (Pam) and Kevin (Ann); sisters, Nell Davis and Jean Rush (Buster); sister-in-laws, Mamie Lou, Jo Ann, and Doris; brothers, J.W. Stanley, Ralph(Vivian) and Carroll (Sandy); 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Luther was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Frances; son, Harold; grandson, Brandon; sisters, Irene (Mendel) and Eveleen; brothers, Lewis, Bill and Floyd.

Luther was a very loving and giving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.  His greatest loves were hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.  He was loved by everyone, always willing to lend a helping hand, and never met a stranger.  He always had a story to tell or an ear to listen.  We were all blessed to have him in our lives to teach, lead, and guide us through all walks of life.  He accepted everyone as they were and never judged.  He will be dearly missed and can never be replaced. 

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens in Columbia.  Friends and family may view Luther from 8:30 AM until 5:00 PM Tuesday, February 8, 2022, and Wednesday, February 9, 2022 from 8:30 AM until 11:00 AM at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington prior to the graveside service.
