Obituary of Martha Elaine Norton

Martha Elaine Norton, “Elaine”, as she was affectionately known, was born on October 29, 1941, in Andrews, SC, to the late Harris and Lelia Haselden. Elaine passed away on January 20, 2022.

Elaine graduated from Williamsburg High School and attended Columbia Business School. She later worked at Fiber Industries. She was a member of Grand Strand Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach, SC. Elaine was a talented cook, gardener, seamstress, and committed her life to serving her Lord and Savior. She treasured time spent with her loved ones and will always be remembered for being a devoted wife, caring mother, and nurturing grandmother. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harris and Lelia Haselden; brother, Mitchell Haselden; husband, John Norton; son, Gregory Norton; and great-grandson, Tadd Heins. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Rogers; brother, Roger Haselden; son, Jerry Norton; granddaughter, Jerrin Norton; and great-grandson, Beckham Heins.

A visitation will take place from 11:30am-12:30pm on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Rd, Columbia, SC. A graveside service will be held afterward at 1:00pm at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Rd, Columbia, SC. Pastor David Spears will be officiating.
