Obituary of Janet George Baierl

Janet George Baierl, 84, more lovingly known as “Grandma,” was called to her heavenly home on Friday, January 14, 2022. She passed peacefully surrounded by family. Born July 17, 1937, Mrs. Baierl was the daughter of Ralph L. George and Flora Lough George.

She was an amazing Mother, Grandmother, and friend, and will forever be remembered for her fun loving, caring, compassionate, and intelligent nature.

She attended Washington Irving High School in Clarksburg, WV, and a student at West Virginia Wesleyan College located in Buckhannon, WV. While in WV, she worked at a local grocery chain and for a local pharmacy. She found such pleasure in working with and getting to know so many people.

Mrs. Baierl moved to Lexington, SC with her family in 1961 and fell in love with the small-town atmosphere and friendly people. She was a member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church.

She was a Christian woman who enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Affectionately known as “Grandma,” she especially cherished the special relationship she had with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Rodney Scott Baierl of TN. She will be dearly missed by her husband, Robert Baierl of Lexington; sons, Paul Gregory Baierl (Sherry) of TN, Alan Joseph Baierl (Izzy Martinez-Aguilar) of Columbia; and her daughters, Sharon Baierl Riles (DuWayne) of West Columbia, and Julie Baierl Stanfield (Donald) of Lexington; grandsons, Joshua Baierl (Kaylee) of GA, Joseph Baierl of Charleston, Nicholas Baierl of Lexington; and granddaughters, Serah Thompson (Chandler) of Lexington, Kristen Riles of West Columbia, and Rachel Baierl of TN.

During Mrs. Baierl’s illness, the amount of kindness shown by family and friends have been too numerous to count. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Cornerstone Presbyterian Church for the countless meals provided by the gracious members.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the in-home staff of Amedisys Hospice Care for the compassionate and quality care given to Mrs. Baierl. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Amedisys Hospice Care, 100 Ashland Park Lane, Suite B, Columbia, South Carolina, 29210.
