Howard Tabor Jr.

Obituary of Howard Jackson Tabor Jr.

Howard Jackson “Jack” Tabor Jr., loving husband, father, grandfather, and proud Veteran of the United States Army, passed away December 29, 2021, at his home in Columbia, South Carolina.

The son of Howard and Gladys Tabor, Howard Jr. grew up in Bluefield, West Virginia, where he was born, July 25, 1946.

At the age of seventeen years old, Howard enlisted in the United States Army, where he went on to serve twenty-three years. He valued this service highly and throughout his career was stationed across the country and overseas, including one tour in Vietnam (1967-1968) and three tours in Germany, which his family fondly remembers. After retiring from the Army, Howard went on to further his education. He took pride in the degrees he earned from Midlands Technical College and later enjoyed being an instructor there, where he taught classes prior to returning as a civil service employee at Ft. Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina for the following twenty years.

Howard was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed old westerns, working in his garage, and loved annual family beach trips vacationing in his RV.

Howard is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of fifty-eight years, Sharyn Neal Tabor; daughter, Connie Tabor Watkins (Kevin); son, William Todd Tabor; and grandchildren, Shane Tabor, Shawn Tabor, Darby Watkins, and Camden Watkins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife’s parents; sister, Norma Tabor Gilbert; and son, Jason Scott Tabor, a seventeen-year Army Veteran.

The family is planning a memorial service to be held with family in Virginia at a later date.
