Obituary of Catherine Cox Riggs

Catherine Cox Riggs, of Columbia, SC, cherished Army wife and mother, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at 3:41pm. Her family members were all by her bedside singing hymns to her when she was released from pain and suffering and into the arms of Jesus.  She loved deeply, and always had a smile on her face and joy in her heart. From her servant’s heart, she shared her love of Christ with all those who came into her reach. She was married for 58 years to Dwight Riggs; what a beautiful example of commitment. She never knew a stranger and loved unconditionally. God was her greatest love, followed closely by the love for her husband and her family - an amazing example of a godly wife and mother. She displayed depth of compassion and character and taught her children how to love.

She is survived by her loving husband, Dwight Riggs; daughter, Elizabeth Wilson; son-in-law, Kevin Wilson; son, Derrick Riggs; grandchildren, Kirk Wilson, Thomas and Ashley Hoke; great grandchildren, Everett, Georgia and Nora Kay; brother, Randy Cox of Raleigh, NC; and multiple nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service for Catherine C. Riggs will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, December 27, 2021 in Boyce Chapel at First Baptist Church of Columbia, 1306 Hampton Street, Columbia, SC, 29201. Reverend Richard Humphries will officiate. The family will greet friends after her service, until 4:00 PM, in Ellis Hall at First Baptist Church of Columbia. Catherine’s interment service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29223.
