Obituary of Dr. Everett Woody Lucas, Jr.

Dr. Everett Woody Lucas, of Lexington, SC, passed away on December 20, 2021 at Lexington Medical Center after many years of battling heart and kidney disease. Woody was born December 14, 1944 in Alexandria, LA, the only son of Everett Woody Lucas, Sr and Leila Hodge Lucas of Sumter, SC.

He graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1963, and received his BA in History and Political Science from Newberry College, where he was a member of Phi Tau. Woody continued his education and received his masters of education from USC, and his doctorate of educational administration from SCSU. He dedicated his life to the field of education and retired from the SC Department of Education as the Federal Grants Administrator.

Woody was known for his quick wit, and was a natural athlete throughout his life. Golfing was his sport of choice. Even more than winning tournaments, Woody treasured the friendships and fellowship the game inspired. He was a member of The Golden Hills Men’s Golf Association for over 20 years, and a former member of the Columbia Shag Club. He loved the beach and often enjoyed the festivities of SOS.

Surviving are his wife, Susan Kirkland Lucas; son, Everett “Rett” Marshall Lucas; sister, Eleanor Lucas Roberson (Glenn); sister-in-law, Marsha Kirkland Brantley (Calvin); brother-in-law, Kevin Charles Brantley; and three nieces: Ashley Roberson O’Neal, Sarah Lucas Roberson and Ramsey Brantley.
