Obituary of Rose Marie Grayson

Rose Marie Grayson, 68, of Lexington, SC, passed away on December 14, 2021. She was born on February 15, 1953 in Henderson, KY to Burt and Lucille Williams.

From KY, the family moved to Moncks Corner, SC, where her father was the pastor of First Baptist Church. When she was seven, the family then relocated to Dayton, OH. Rose graduated from Meadowdale High School, where she was involved in the drama programs. Her teacher saw something in her and encouraged her to pursue theater as her major when she attended Carson-Newman College in TN. And with more encouragement from her drama professor, she obtained a Master's Degree in Directing at the University of South Carolina.

Rose worried that she may have gotten a “useless” degree, but then found purpose using her skills in the Creative Arts Ministry with the South Carolina Baptist Convention. She was also the drama director for the long-running “Singing Christmas Tree” of Shandon Baptist Church. She was well known for her dramatic monologues of Corrie Ten Boom, Lottie Moon, the Innkeeper’s wife, and others.

Her children, Joshua and Jessalyn, were the blessings from her first marriage. Later, as a single parent, her love for reading led her to pursue a second Master’s Degree in Library Science and Information. She used her work in theater, combined with her love of reading, to continue to minister to children through storytelling and many other children’s programs as the Youth Services Librarian at the Cayce-West Columbia Library.  After 20 years at the library, she retired in August 2019.

In 1999, Rose married her loving husband, Weaver Grayson. No one would question Rose’s servant heart as she and Weaver cared for her aging parents nearly every weekend for five years. Rose may have retired from the library, but never stopped working, continuing to care for others.

Rose is survived by her husband, Weaver Grayson; her son, Joshua Crane (Erin), daughter Jessalyn Crane-Vuocolo (Sam); two grandchildren: Connor Crane, and Jacob Crane; three siblings: Gene Williams (Natasha), Carol Williams, and Dan Williams (Julie); niece, Kimberly O’Hara; nephews, Ryan O’Hara, and Balin Williams (Heidi); as well as many cousins and friends.
