Patricia Sampedro

Obituary of Patricia Sampedro

Patricia Sampedro, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, passed away on November 28, 2021.

Patricia was born in Worcester, MA on New Year’s Eve 1965. Upon graduating from Holy Name High School, Patricia joined the United States Air Force, where she was stationed at Travis AFB California. After proudly serving four years, she separated from the Air Force as a Sergeant. She was always quick to remind Tony Sampedro, her loving husband of more than 34 years, who also served in the USAF, that she out-ranked him when she separated. After leaving active service, she continued to serve as a wonderful, supportive and proud military spouse. Be it in California, Germany, New Jersey, Oklahoma or South Carolina, Patricia always made a wonderful home for her family and quickly became active in the local community.

Patricia graduated from Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC with a degree in Nursing. As a Registered Nurse of 25+ years, Patricia served countless patients (and their families) in several states in a variety of specialties, including Orthopedics, Medical/Surgical, Psychiatric, and as a home health nurse, which she loved doing. A skilled and knowledgeable medical professional, Patricia served as a preceptor to many nurses over her career. The ripple effect of her sharing her knowledge will impact many thousands of people in the years to come.

While being a wonderful wife and an amazing nurse, Patricia raised two great kids, Anthony and Julia, who were her pride and joy. Patricia was always proud to say that her kids never went to daycare, but were raised by her (with a little help on occasion from Tony). She handmade kid's Halloween costumes (try making a spacesuit out of soda bottles and garbage pail lid or butterfly wings out of coat hangers and pantyhose), threw great backyard birthday parties of whatever theme the kids wanted that year (including "Nemo", "China", "Chocolate" and "Cheese", just to name a few) and never missed a play, a football game, or a concert. No mother ever loved her kids more than she loved hers.

Those that knew her well knew that other than caring for her family, Patricia's passion was cooking. There are not many who knew Patricia that she did not feed at some point. Be it opening her home on Christmas Eve two years in a row while stationed in Altus Oklahoma to feed 75+ people each year, including C-17 Aircrew students from the United Kingdom's Royal Air Force, to ensure they had a home cooked meal on Christmas Eve or taking meals to sick friends or new moms. From her Italian Wedding soup to her Pasta Bolognese or her annual Feast of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve, Patricia's cooking was in a class by itself and she was never happier than when she was feeding her family and her friends.

While she may be gone, Tony, her husband of 34 years is thankful for the 36 years he had Patricia in his life. As Tony puts it, "Tricia made me a better man, a better father and a better person and I loved her...love her...with all my heart. She was a damn good wife, a great mother, a wonderful friend, a kind caring nurse and a good person. Patricia was and always will be my one true love."

Patricia was preceded in death by her twin sister Rita, who she loved very much; and her grandparents, Nona and Coco, for whom she had the fondest memories. Patricia leaves behind her husband, Tony; her children, Anthony and Julia; her parents, Lucian and Anna; her step-mother Maryanne; her sister, Marina; her aunts, Barbara and Phyllis; her uncle, Paul; her friend, Sandy; and her very best friend, Koelle.

When you read this and you think, is there anything I can do for Patricia or her family please do this in her memory...don't just tell your loved ones that you love them, SHOW them every day that they are your world because you never know when they will be gone.
