Obituary of Frances Marion Shirley Jones

God has called an angel home. Frances Marion Shirley Jones, 80, of West Columbia, SC, died November 16, 2021, peacefully at home with her daughter by her side. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, November 21, 2021 in the Chapel at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Pastor Chet Andrews of State Street Baptist Church will officiate the service.

Frances was born in Kershaw County, SC, on July 27, 1941 to the late Jessie Wade and Eva Nell Melton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas William Shirley, her second husband, James Edward Jones, both of Cayce, SC; and her devoted step-mother, Elsie Melton of Winnsboro, SC.

Frances Marion was deeply loved and will be missed by so many. She was known for her beauty, grace and serenity. Always artistic and creative, she loved drawing, painting ceramics, making decorative plates and even painted the faces of porcelain dolls for the Horseman Dolls Company. She always enjoyed dressing in costume and making the ornaments for the annual Victorian Christmas Tree at the Cayce Historical Museum. She was a beauty to behold.

Before health issues forced her to retire, Mrs. Jones was a Sales Manager for the Tupperware Corporation. Her unit, The Crown Jewels, was one of the most successful in the Southeast. She was a long time member of State Street Baptist Church in Cayce, SC. In earlier years, she taught Sunday School and art classes. She was the treasured daughter-in-law of the late James and Lois Shirley of Cayce, SC.

Frances is survived by her daughter and caregiver, vocalist Teilah Shirley. She had extended family and a wonderful group of cousins that she loved: Charles & Ellen Melton, Mary & Gerald Melton, Carol & the late John Owens, Ada Smith, Shirley Lucas, Ernie Woodson & her late Aunts Gladys Woodson and Nettie Owens, Dell Price & Patsy Stegall of Cayce, SC; her adoptive son, James Taylor of Moncks Corner, SC, and cherished sisters-in-law, Johnnie Rosborough and Jo Mims of Columbia, SC.

The Shirley family would like to thank caregivers in years past that became like family to us, Dona Moore Osment and Robin Sharpe. Memorials can be made to State Street Baptist Church.
