Obituary of Velma C. Hyman

Velma C. Hyman, 92, of Gaston, SC, passed away October 15, 2021 at home surrounded by her family. She was born on August 28, 1929 in Brownsville, SC to the late Boyd and Penny Coats.

Mrs. Hyman was married to the late Richard N. Hyman for 57 years, and she worked with him to build a successful business, The Palmetto Brace Shop.

Velma is survived by her sister, Dorothy Harunkiewicz of E. Wareham, MA; and her daughters, Debbie Derrick (Charles), and Susan Hyman of Gaston. She was the grandmother of Kelly Watson (Keith), and Tara Buchanan, also of Gaston; and the great-grandmother of Garette, Cole and Charlie. She was preceded in death by her husband, and brother, Boyd (Buddy) Coats.

Services will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Cayce United Methodist Church, 1600 12th St, Cayce, SC 29033, with burial to follow in Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 W. Dunbar Road W., West Columbia, SC 29170. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
