Obituary of Joanne Bernadette Bent

Joanne B. Bent, 87, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home with family at her bedside on Friday, September 24, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, to whom she was married to for 57 years.

Joanne was born in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Joseph and Frances Lee. She was raised and lived in New Jersey. Joanne graduated from Mount St Vincent College and received a Master's Degree in Reading from Kean University, NJ.

Joanne spent over 30 years teaching in a number of schools in NJ. She was devoted to the education of young children. She instilled a love of learning and especially the love of reading by creating and implementing many innovative programs for her students.

In 1997, Joanne and Arthur retired to their dream home on Dataw Island, SC. Joanne loved to read, spending time by the water, doing needlepoint, and painting. She was involved in many community activities and volunteer groups on Dataw and the greater Beaufort area.  Joanne also loved traveling around the world with family.

Joanne is survived by her daughter, Regan; son, Robert; daughter-in-law, Ann Marie; and her grandchildren, Alexa and Matthew. She also leaves behind her beloved sister, Marianne.

A Mass and Rite of Committal will take place at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Beaufort, SC, on December 27, 2021.
