Obituary of Dorothy "Dottie" F. Miller

Dorothy “Dottie” F. Miller was born on April 15, 1932 in North Wilkesboro, NC. Dottie passed away on Sunday morning September 26, 2021 at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan F. Miller.

Dottie’s career spanned 64 years with the State of SC. Her career began at the SC Department of Transportation. In 1979, Dottie became an administrative assistant in the SC Senate. She served under two Sergeant-at-Arms, Harry Coker and Jim Melton. She had a fulfilling and rewarding career working alongside Senators for many years. Dottie retired in 2017.

She was a long-time resident of Springdale and an active member of Northside Baptist Church, serving in Community Outreach with her Sunday school class. Her favorite pastimes were spending time with her grandchildren at the lake, putting puzzles together while telling stories and original fairytales. Dottie also enjoyed being outdoors and gardening. She was a University of South Carolina alumni and always enjoyed attending Carolina Gamecock football games.

She is survived by her two sons, David Miller of Knoxville, TN, and Steve Miller (Susan) of Leesville, SC; five grandchildren: Stephanie Miller, Ashley Goodwin (Andy), Laurel Miller (Jim), Whitney Kelly (Sean), and Matthew Miller (Stephanie); four great-grandchildren: Gabriel, Judah, Maisy and Maverick; niece, Vickie Wynn; and many other nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at Celestial Memorial Gardens on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 11:00am.
