Obituary of Esther Lou Ehlke

Esther Lou Ehlke, (nee James), 86, of Jacksonville, FL, wife of Peter Ehlke, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2021. Born on August 26, 1935 in Charleston, SC to the late John D. James and Foy Evelyn Jones James, she was a graduate of Aynor High School and the Medical University of South Carolina. She was a nurse for over 30 years in Charleston and Irmo SC, as well as a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and church member.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, John Ehlke (Sharon), Carol Lynn Hoffbauer (Edward), and Cynthia Ann Smith (Steven); eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2PM on Monday, September 27, 2021 in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209. The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Serenity Memorial Gardens.
