Obituary of David Thomas Ulrath
David Thomas Ulrath passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, September 3, 2021. A native of Hartford, MI, he was predeceased by his beloved parents, Thomas Albert and Beverly Smith Ulrath. Dave studied at Olivet University, where he played football. He was drafted into military service and was a Vietnam War veteran.
After Dave’s tour of service, he met the love of his life, Carolyn (Zachry). He was dedicated to his wife and sons, Lucian David Ulrath and Brent Livingston Ulrath. He never failed to be present for his children or his community. Dave had recently retired after 38 years of service with the SC Department of Natural Resources. He was well known for his supervision, conservation, and education of the importance of fish and aquatic life for public lakes.
In addition to his sons, Lucian and Brent, Dave is survived by siblings, Ruth Ann (Floyd) Kosinsky, Deborah Ulrath, Linda (Salvatore) Pitino, Patricia (Scott) Richerson, Gary (Sheila) Ulrath, and Joanne (Ken) Grantham; 15 nieces and nephews; and 15 great nieces and nephews.
Services for Dave and Carolyn will be held jointly at Fort Jackson National Cemetery on October 8, 2021 at 11:00am. In loving memory, the family has requested donations on behalf of the Vietnam War Veterans of America.
