Obituary of Billy Gene Gillis

Billy Gene Gillis, 88, of Blythewood, SC, passed away September 19, 2021. He was born on January 12, 1933 in Winnsboro, SC to the late Edward K. Gillis and Mable Cleo Matthews.
 
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Bevie Kay Gillis and his brother, John K. Gillis.
 
Billy started his career in the United States Navy, where he served on the USS Saint Paul and USS Mataco ATF-86, serving during the Korean War and Vietnam War. He received many service awards to include: Good Conduct, Korean Service Medal with Silver Star, China Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal With Device. Billy finished his career working at Linrick Golf Course.
 
Billy never met a stranger and was loved by many. He enjoyed taking long walks, as well as nightly conversations with his niece, Sue Jones. You could always find him outside in the shop or working in the yard.
 
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
