Doyce Ross

Obituary of Doyce Lumzy Ross

Doyce Lumzy Ross went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 4, 2021. Mrs. Doyce was born on March 29, 1937 in Columbia, Mississippi, of Marion County. She was the daughter of the late KC Lumzy and Ella (Abram) Lumzy.

Educated in the school system of Columbia, MS, she graduated from La Marion High School in 1957. Upon graduation, she moved to Jersey City, NJ where she lived for seven years. She then relocated to San Diego, CA in 1964 where she attended Kera Mesa College, San Diego, CA. In 1969, she met the love of her life, Mose Ross Jr. This union was blessed with two children, Nikita Ross-Briggs and Mose Ross III. While living in San Diego, CA, Doyce got a license in real estate and was an agent for SGS and Century 21 until the military moved the family to Meridian, MS in 1980. Doyce worked at the Columbia Training School in Columbia, MS and later retired from Weems Community Mental Health Center in Meridian, MS in 2001. After her retirement, Doyce and Mose relocated to her hometown of Columbia, MS to be near family. In Columbia, Doyce worked at the Boys and Girls Club, for a short while, she volunteered at Marion General Hospital, and was an active member of Virginia Street Church of Christ where she served her church in many capacities. Doyce would relocate for the last time in 2019, to Columbia, SC, to be closer to her children.

She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ since 1983. She faithfully and passionately served the Lord and made it her lifelong mission to lead others to Christ by living a life that was centered upon the three pillars of faith, family and friends. She touched many lives through her work, ministry and community service. She loved to bake, travel and had many friends throughout. She was affectionately known by many names and was proud to answer to them all: MoMo, Granny, Sister Ross, Mama Ross, Auntie, and recently Doycee.

On September 4, 2021 at approximately 1:15am, Doyce Ross gracefully departed this life at Lexington Medical Hospital in Columbia, SC. She was preceded in death by both parents; one sister, Margrett Ann Johnson; eight brothers: Charles Lumzy, Lewis Lumzy, George Lumzy, Benny Lumzy, Bobby Lumzy, Willie Lumzy, Samuel Lumzy and Nelson Russell. Doyce leaves to treasure her memory, a loving husband, Mr. Mose Ross; daughter, Nikita Ross-Briggs (Kelvin); son, Mose Ross III (Lashanza); one brother, Arthur Stewart Lumzy; six grandkids: Jevon Briggs, Justin Briggs, Jaylen Briggs, Bryan Ross, Haley Radar, and Cristian Ross; three great-grandkids: Justin Briggs Jr, Kaison Briggs, and Rylan Briggs; two first cousins, Bennye Moseley and Frances McDuffie; two second cousins (raised by her mother), Ramona Abram and Jerry Abram; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, and countless special friends. While Doyce will be missed dearly, her family will forever cherish the many happy memories they have of her and take comfort in knowing she is resting comfortably in Abraham’s Bosom.
