Obituary of Irene B. Gissendanner

Irene B. Gissendanner, 73, of West Columbia, loving wife of the late James D. Gissendanner, passed away on August 23, 2021. Irene was born on August 19, 1948 in Grandview, IN to the late Edith Powers Bays and Arthur Oren Bays, Sr. 

She graduated from Cheraw High School in 1966, where she was in the National Honor Society and played basketball. She served in the US Army from 1967-1973 as an Army Clerk, and drove the car for the Commanding Officer of Fort Jackson.

Irene retired after 40 years from Wentworth Printing Company. She was a member of West Side Baptist Church.

She is survived by two brothers, Arthur Bays and Jan Bays; a daughter, Anne Gissendanner (Justin); a son, James Gissendanner; sisters-in-law, Ruth Bays and Marilyn Bays; son-in-law, Carlo; nieces, Minta Threatte and Bence Bays; nephews, John Wayne Threatte and Maddox Bays; and great-nephew, Carter Threatte. Irene was predeceased by a sister, Javerne Threatte.
