Obituary of Mary Odelsie "Del" Crawley Winston

Mary Odelsie “Del” Crawley Winston, 90, passed away July 30, 2021. Born December 9, 1930, in Gretna, VA, she was the daughter of the late Noel and Ola Crawley. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 36 years, Thomas E. Winston Jr., and a brother, Arnold Crawley. 

She is survived by two sons, T. Edward Winston III (Jackie) and Kimball L. Winston (Susan); three sisters, Dot Scruggs, Jane Mehaffey and Kay Creasy; three grandchildren, Chris Winston (Bridget), Lauren Winston and Joel Winston; and two great-grandchildren, Charlie Winston and Jackson Winston. 

Del was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed gardening, creative projects and shell-searching. After spending her working years in various office and customer service roles in VA and SC, she spent her retirement years as an active Keenager at Thomas Memorial Baptist Church in Bennettsville, SC, on trips to visit with family, and painting and creating award-winning works of art. Most recently, she relocated to the Village at South Lake in Lexington, SC, where she continued her crafts and made many new friends. 

Graveside services will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, August 5, 2021, at Lambs United Methodist Church, 2591 Lambs Church Road, Altavista, VA. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00pm prior to the service. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Lambs United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Treasurer, 3098 Marysville Road, Altavista, VA 24517.
