Francis Jean Crapps Hopkins, 87, of West Columbia, SC, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, July 8th. She was born in Gilbert, SC on January 11, 1934 to the late Festus Odell Crapps and the late Laura Lou Jumper Crapps Stone. Jean graduated as the salutatorian from Lexington High School in 1953 and worked for SC National Bank and Wachovia Bank for 35 years.

She married the love of her life, James “Jack” Allen Hopkins, on July 3, 1966, and they recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Together they raised their daughter, Susan Register Steele, and her stepson, James “Jimmy” Allen Hopkins, Jr. Jean was known as “Jean, Jean the Talking Machine” and talked to people and made new friends everywhere she went. She was beloved to everyone who knew her. Jean loved nothing more than spending time with her family, friends, and grandchildren.

Jean was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church for over 50 years where she taught Sunday School and served on the Church Council. She also served several terms as President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Rebecca Circle. She loved to go out dancing to do the Carolina Shag with Jack and their friends every chance she got. She was a member of the Central South Carolina Shagger’s Hall of Fame. Jean also loved to travel and go on cruises where she visited Alaska, Hawaii, and numerous Caribbean Islands. Jean and Jack spent most of their Saturdays in the fall tailgating at Williams-Brice Stadium and pulling hard for the Carolina Gamecocks.
