Obituary of Paul B. Boken
On the morning of July 3, 2021, Paul B. Boken entered into his eternal rest. Born and raised in Morgantown, West Virginia, Paul enlisted in the United States Army as a teenager and would attain the rank of Sergeant First Class. Most notably, Paul served as a Drill Instructor at Fort Jackson throughout the 1980s. After his retirement in 1988, he began his second career with the South Carolina Department of Transportation as a Traffic Light Technician. Retiring again from the state, Paul dedicated himself to his grandchildren. Like a true West Virginian and lover of westerns and Louis L’Amour books, he enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, and poker playing. He was a dedicated member of the VFW in Elgin, South Carolina. Paul lived humbly and loved deeply. He is survived by his children Dawn L. Boken, Constance B. Shugars (husband Kenny), and John Paul Boken (wife Amy); and his grandchildren Chelsea A. Shugars, Stephen A. Shugars, Alyssa N. Boken, Cassidy M. Cognata, Austin J. Boken, and Aaron M. Boken.
Please make memorial contributions to the VFW Post 11079, PO Box 264, Elgin, SC 29045.
The burial will be held on Friday, July 9, at Fort Jackson with full military honors.
