Obituary of Mildred Agnes Haithcock Bass

Mildred Agnes Haithcock Bass passed away peacefully on May 29, 2021 at the age of 100 years. 

She was born on 3 April 1921 in Whitakers, Nash County, North Carolina to James Carey Haithcock and Mary Jane Campbell Haithcock. 

She and her family lived in the country where her father was a sharecropper. She had 7 siblings who have all predeceased her. They were: Anabel, Ashley Campbell, Laura Lucille who died as a child, Wilbert Leonard, Frederick James, Mary Kathleen and Clinton Bernard. 

Mildred’s family moved into Rocky Mount, NC where she met Edward R. Bass who came to court a girl who lived upstairs. He was smitten and they were married on 6 September 1940. 

They are the parents of eight children: James Edward (Sidney), Mildred Ann, David Ashley, Wilma, Kenneth Allison (Corryn), Janis Ivey (Tim), Bonnie Gibbons (Grant) and Brian Keith. Mildred Ann and David Ashley predeceased her as did her husband of 67 years. Mildred and Ed have quite a posterity with 25 grandchildren, 66 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. 

Mildred was a wonderful wife and mother and homemaker. She was an extraordinary seamstress and cook. Her grandchildren adored her as did her many great grandchildren. 

Mildred was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served faithfully in many callings. She and Edward were sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for time and all eternity on June 10, 1949. She died looking forward to being with her beloved husband and family members again. 

The family will gather at 9:00 am on Thursday June 3, 2021 and will receive guests ­­­­­at 9:30 until 10:30am in the Relief Society Room of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 4440 Jackson Blvd, Columbia, SC. 

Funeral services will begin in the Chapel at 10:30 am on June 3, 2021 with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park on Leesburg Road.
