Kateryna Lovyagyna

Obituary of Kateryna Lovyagyna

Kateryna  Lovyagyna was born on May 20th 1934 in USSR/Ukraine. She was the third of six children and will finally join the rest of her siblings, mother and father in Heaven.

Kateryna had many jobs throughout her life, from being a farm hand at a young age, to being a factory worker in a piping warehouse. She and her family survived the WWII and two Famines in Ukraine. She devoted her life to her only child and later her grandchildren. Her late husband Phillip passed away in 1995. That same year she arrived to the USA for the first time. She devoted the rest of her life to her family. She did not only impact the lives of her close family with her love, devotion and compassion, she also touched the lives of anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her. She might not have spoken the same language as most she encountered but she proved love has no barrier and Kateryna loved each and every person who came around. She was a pillar in her community, not only taking care of her great grandson in her late 70s but also being a nanny to children that were like family. She loved her family beyond anything. Many might remember her from making sure they were full and never left on an empty stomach, some might remember her for her beautiful songs she sang at the family gatherings. She was a church going woman and went to church when she could. She became a member of  St. Elizabeth the New Martyr Orthodox Church in 2002. Her family will remember her for being a pillar of power for her family and as the strong, beautiful woman she was; for the amazing meals she always cooked them; for the beautiful memories she left them with. There will be no other babushka. She will be dearly missed by her family. She fought hard and long for many years, living to the incredible age of eighty-seven, but her fight had to come to an end and she is no longer in pain.

She is survived by her daughter Svetlana Tsyganok, grandchildren Yevgeniya Tsyganok, Daniel Tsyganok, Dmitriy Tsyganok , Andrew Lokantsov, and her great grand son Leon Tsyganok-Williams. May her memory be eternal in all those who she touched in life.
