Obituary of Betty Lee Pringle Mitchell

Ms. Betty Lee Pringle Mitchell was born on May 20, 1951 in Columbia, South Carolina.  She was the second of nine children born to the late Richard Pringle, Sr. and Mary Evans Pringle.  Betty departed this life on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at the age of 69 and peacefully went home to be with our heavenly father. She was baptized at First Nazareth Baptist Church at an early age. 

 

Betty graduated from C.A. Johnson High School, Class of 1969. After graduating from high school, she enlisted in the United States Air Force August 17, 1970. While in the Air Force, she worked for the Air Force Office of Special Investigation in Washington, D.C., the Pacific Air Force Intelligence in Hawaii and Strategic Air Command in Blytheville, Arkansas. Betty received the following awards in the Air Force: Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Air Force Leadership Medal. She was honorably discharged from the Air Force July 28, 1977 after 6 years of service.

 

Betty was employed by the United States Army in September 1981 in Wiesbaden, Germany. She received a Letter of Appreciation for her services when she left. 

 

In 1981, she graduated from the University of South Carolina (Columbia) with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology.  Also, she graduated in 1986 from Webster University (Ft. Jackson) with a Master of Arts Degree in Management.

 

Betty joined the United States Naval Reserves in 1986 as a Petty Officer Third Class in Personnel and was awarded the Naval Reserve Meritorious Service Medal with a Letter of Appreciation. She was honorably discharged from the Naval Reserve in March 1999, after 6 years of service.  Betty was on duty in the Naval Reserve during Desert Storm. 

 

She retired from South Carolina Department of Social Services as a Human Resources Manager I in June 1999, after 18 years of service due to disability. 

 

Betty was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Sherry Alicia Pringle; son, Theodies Mitchell III; grandson, Aiden Ted Mitchell; her parents, Richard and Mary Pringle; sister Rose Mary Pringle Lark, brothers Raymond Archie Pringle and Richard Pringle, Jr.

 

Betty is survived by three granddaughters, Terri Denise Samuel, Tydriana Nikkya Washington, and Talia Makayla Mitchell; one grandson, Taylen Adrion Mitchell; of Columbia, South Carolina; one great-grandson, Sage Arkell Haynes of Columbia, South Carolina; one great-granddaughter, Kassidy Rose Stover of Columbia, South Carolina; two brothers: James Perry Pringle and Daniel Edward Pringle, Sr., of Columbia, South Carolina; three sisters, De Lois (William) Pringle Geiger, Dorothy Mae Pringle Wilson, and Beatrice Pringle of Columbia, South Carolina; two lifetime friends Mary Lindsay-Nelson and Janice Randall; nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
