Obituary of Ret. SGM James C. "Jim" Henson
Ret. SGM James C. “Jim” Henson, 81, of Hopkins, SC, departed to his heavenly home on March 23, 2021. He was born in Jonesboro, AR to the late Raymond Amos and Elmer – Parker Henson.
He is survived by his wife, Carole Barrows Henson; children: Harry J. Barrows of Shelton, WA, James E. Andrews, Jr. of Falmouth, MA, Lavern M Farina of Elizabeth, CO; brothers: G.W. Henson (Nancy), and Paul Henson of AR; sister, Earline Gregory of AR; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Henson, Jr.; sisters: Betty Halton and Denise Henson; and 1 great-grandson, Elijah.
Ret. SGM Henson served the U.S. Army for 30 years and retired in 1988. He had 3 tours in Vietnam and received numerous awards during his time of service. After retiring, he earned an Associate Degree in HVAC and worked for the State of SC at Midlands Tech College for about 15 years.
Jim was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He was very supportive and generous to his children. Jim loved hunting and couldn’t wait for the season. He enjoyed playing golf at Fort Jackson golf course. He was also very attached to his 2 dogs, Luke and Draco.
Jim was a faithful member of Shandon Baptist Church for many years. He loved the Lord and read his Bible daily. Jim, we love you, but God loves you best. Take your rest now.
