Obituary of Dempsey Wade Welch

Dempsey Wade Welch passed away March 6, 2021. Dempsey was born to Frank and Peggy Welch on July 17, 1956 in Columbia, SC. Dempsey is preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Helen Welch, and his brother, Frank Welch.

Dempsey is survived by his children: Dempsey Welch, Jr. (Sandy), Casey Welch (Victor), Vickie Westmorland, Brian Westmoreland, and Scott Westmoreland; his grandchildren: Victor, Tobias, Daniel, Ashlee, David, Adam, Destinee, Hayden, Phillip, Emalee, Baylee, Riley, Chloe, Brynlee, and Weston; brother, Chet Welch; many nieces and nephews.

Dempsey grew up in Westside Baptist Church of Columbia and was a member of many hunting clubs, including the Lebanon Hunting Club. He was known for his love of everything outdoors. Fishing and hunting were his greatest passions. Dempsey was also a skilled welder. He often claimed he could weld anything from a broken heart to the crack of dawn. He utilized his skills working at Carolina Eastman as a contractor for over 30 years.

A visitation for Dempsey Welch will be held at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington on Friday, March 12, 2021 from 5:00-7:00pm. A graveside service will be held at Celestial Memorial Gardens on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 2:00pm.
