Obituary of Harry Marsh

Harry Marsh, 98, died March 1, 2021. He is survived by his brother, Edgar Marsh; son, Ray Marsh (Dominique); daughter, Beth McClure (Larry); grandchildren, Kathryn Weber (Tyler), Marsh McClure (Fernanda); and step grandchildren, Elizabeth Stegall (Mike) and David Laverdure. Harry was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Betty Jane Marsh. Harry was fortunate to have the companionship of Sarah Kummer for 15 years.

A native of Jackson, Mississippi, he served as a B25 pilot in World War II, was the wing commander in the Air Cadets and was at the top of his class. Active in the Boy Scouts, he was awarded the Silver Beaver and Silver Antelope awards. Harry retired as senior Vice President for Southern Bell Telephone Company. He was President of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, General Chairman of the United Way, and served on many boards. He received the Order of the Palmetto from the state of South Carolina and the Key to the City from Columbia. He was a member of Trenholm Road United Methodist Church.

A graveside service will be Friday, March 5, 2021 at 2:00pm at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Rd, Columbia, SC 29209. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trenholm Road United Methodist Church or the Columbia Chapter of the American Red Cross.
