Obituary of Sylvester Bonniman Byrd

Sylvester Bonniman Byrd departed this life on February 18, 2021 at the age of 81. He was supported by his devoted, loving wife, Rosa Lee Byrd of 60 years and their loving children.

Sylvester was born April 2, 1939 to Sirlister and Gracie Byrd in Newport News, VA.  He attended Newport Huntington High School where he later received a one-year scholarship for Livingston College. After college, Sylvester served in the Army for 22 years. He was a well-respected, decorated vet. He received many honors and metals in the military. He was a member of the Noah’s Ark Church, Nashville, TN and New Birth Tabernacle Baptist Church, Hopkins, SC.

Sylvester’s family knew him as a kind, funny, warm hearted, and loving family man. He had an infectious smile and always offered a helping hand. He leaves his memories to his loving wife, Rosa Lee Byrd; children: Marrella, Cophonso (Sylvia), Sheila Wilkinson, Celia (Jun), Bobby (Stephanie), Danni (Danny), and Ronni Bryant (Arzaa); 24 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers: Earl Jones, Sherman and Herman Byrd; sister, Lillian Louis Palmer; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
