Obituary of Lelon Joseph "Joe" Sharpe

Lelon Joseph “Joe” Sharpe, 84, of Cayce, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2021 at Lexington Medical Center. 

Born March 6, 1936 in Gaston, SC, he was the son of the late Cecil D. and Loree Spires Sharpe. Mr. Sharpe was employed as a carpenter with McCrory Construction Company for over 40 years where he retired. He volunteered his time for many years with the Harvest Hope Food Bank. He was known, by many, for his sweet and gentle nature.  He loved his Lord and read his Bible daily, often multiple times each day. He also loved Southern Gospel Music and would go to concerts as often as possible. He was a lifetime member of Gantt Street Baptist Church.

Mr. Sharpe leaves behind a son, Leland “Joe” Sharpe (Christine) of West Columbia; a daughter, Frances S. White (Jeff) of Cayce; two sisters, Elaine Long (Keith) of Gilbert and Brenda Cooper of Gaston; a brother, Ezel Sharpe (Barbara) of West Columbia; two grandchildren, Leland J. “L.J.” Sharpe, III (Nicolle) of Myrtle Beach and Hannah K. White of Columbia, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sharpe was preceded in death by his wife Clara Gates Sharpe and several brothers and sisters.

Due to the current COVID situation, a private graveside service will be held at Southland Memorial Gardens. The family would like to let friends know that viewing will be at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington on Sunday from 3 PM to 5:30 PM and during normal business hours of 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM on Monday.
