Obituary of Steven Douglas Barfield

Steven Douglas Barfield, 71, of West Columbia, SC passed away Friday, February 5, 2021. He was born September 27, 1949 in Columbia, SC to the late Douglas “Pete” and Mary “Tina” Barfield of Olympia, SC.

In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his wife of 22 years, Nancy Barfield; his sister Rickey Barfield Newman; and his son, Tory Barfield Sr. Mr. Barfield is survived by his sister, Janet Barfield Thornton (Mitchell Thornton); his daughters: Heather Buchanan (Malachi Keddington), Shelby Barfield Long (Jerry Long), and Stephanie Barfield; grandchildren: Jordan Harris, Rena Barfield, Araya Harris, Hannah Barfield, Torei Ann Barfield, Jeremiah West, Tory Barfield Jr, Landon Long, Sydni Long, Logan Long, KaiLee Keddington, and Kaian Keddington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Steve proudly served in the US Navy on the USS Shangri La CVA 38. Following his service, he became a skilled electrician and retired from Shaw Electric in 2011. He was a loyal Gamecocks fan who lived for football season. Steven was a loving brother, father, and grandfather who will be very missed.

Visitation for Steven Barfield will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 from 12:00-1:00pm at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Directly following visitation, there will be a graveside service at Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 2:00 pm are invited to attend, however masks and social distancing are required to create a safe environment for all.  The taping of the service may be viewed  online at https://client.tribucast.com/tcid/816568299. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
