Obituary of Harold Dean Hooper, Sr.

Harold Dean Hooper, Sr. went home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on January 9, 2021, from congestive heart failure.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 3:00PM at Southland Memorial Gardens.

He was the son of Odell and Agnes Gunnings Hooper of Union, South Carolina.

He moved to the Cayce-West Columbia area in 1967. He was a supervisor in the textile industry. He was a member of Holland Avenue Baptist Church and the Berea Fellowship Sunday School Class. He enjoyed spending time with his family and fur babies. He also spent time coaching Harold, Jr.’s baseball teams, playing golf and was an avid walker.

He was predeceased by his wife, Gladys Estes Hooper; his parents; his sisters, Gaynelle Hooper Callahan Wade and Mary Ann Hooper Kirby, along with their husbands, and his mother-in-law, Lucille Gregory, all of Union, SC; his son-in-law, Ronnie Marchant and great-grandson, Boone Flowers.

Surviving children, Linda Hooper Elrod (Tim), Debbie Hooper Marchant, Cindy Hooper, all of Lexington, SC, Harold Hooper, Jr. (Laura) of West Columbia, SC.

His grandchildren Brian (Lori) Elrod, Lindsay Elrod Arant (Randy), Ashley Marchant Flowers (Jeffrey), Brandon Marchant (Colbie), Dustin Hooper and Dana Hooper.

Great-grandchildren Elliott, Eva, and Ezra Elrod; Ryder, Ann Maesyn, and Micah Arant; Finn Flowers, and Landry Marchant.  Sister-in-law, Marie Duncan of Jonesville, SC, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Family would like to thank Oakleaf Village and Crescent Hospice for their love and care in his last days.

Memorials can be made to Holland Avenue Baptist Church at 801 12th Street, Cayce, SC 29033.

In accordance with CDC guidelines and Thompson Funeral Home policy, all of those in attendance are asked to please wear a face mask and social distance.
