Obituary of Elaine Gunter

Elaine L. Gunter went home to be with the Lord on December 20, 2020.  Born on December 19, 1948 in Columbia, she was the daughter of Clarence and Louise Lorick.

Mrs. Gunter grew up in Cayce surrounded by her father’s family and spent summers with her mother’s family on a farm in Sandy Run.  She graduated from B.C. High School where she was involved in the FBLA. She began working at AT&T in the mail room and gradually worked her way up.  She stayed with the company through many different name changes (Southern Bell, BellSouth, and once again to AT&T).  She retired in 2009 after working for 42 years.

Mrs. Gunter moved from Cayce to West Columbia where she lived with her husband John.  She spent time gardening, cooking, crafting, reading, and raising their two children.  She was a lifelong member of Grace Chapel Church in West Columbia where she sang in the choir for many years, volunteered as a Sunday School teacher, nursery worker, and Pioneer Club leader.  Mrs. Gunter loved people (never met a stranger) and loved to talk.

Mrs. Gunter is survived by her husband John of West Columbia, son Jonathan of Cayce, daughter Rene’ (Shawn) Chavis, grandchildren Georgia and Gabrielle Chavis, brother John W.(Beverly) Lorick of Gaston.

A celebration of life service will be held January 9, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church Cayce.  Visitation will be held at 10:00.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the 6th floor of North Tower at Lexington Medical Center for the compassionate care the last 12 days of Mrs. Gunter's life. Without your kindness and support, we would not have been confident going home each day.
