Obituary of Merna C. Long

Merna C. Long, 89, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020.  She was born April 24, 1931 to Henry and Mertle Corley.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Long; sisters, Cleo Corley, Anne Friddle, and Ruth Taylor, and brother, Ottie Lee Corley.

Merna is survived by brother, Burlie Corley; daughters, Cynthia Parker and Kathy Lybrand (Mark); grandchildren, Jessica McAlister (Chris), Angela Boone (Richard), Kayla Lybrand, and Matt Lybrand (Darian); as well as a great-granddaughter, Olive Barton, and a great-grandson, Tyler McAlister, and many well-loved nieces and nephews.

Merna was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church of West Columbia, SC.  She was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother.  She was an accomplished pianist, playing music from hymns to boogie-woogie and big band.  Most importantly, she was a teacher of life to her children and grandchildren.

Services will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at 3:30 pm at Thompson’s Funeral Home, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC with burial to follow in Zion Lutheran Church cemetery, Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC.  Visitation will be held at 2:30 pm on December 29 at the funeral home.
