Obituary of Matthew "Bud" Burkett
Matthew (Bud) Burkett passed away on December 6, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Matthew was born on April 15, 1926 in New Brooklyn, SC to Douglas and Virginia Burkett.
He dedicated his life to the service of his country in the United States Army, serving in both World War II and the Korean War. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1967 and then promptly joined the U.S. Federal Civil Service. He was loved by all that knew him. When Mr. Burkett was not serving his country, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved family, especially his grandchildren, and tending to his home. Camping, lawn care, solar lights, and wind spinners were some of his favorite hobbies and in his younger days he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, his loving wife Sara Burkett of 69 years, and his great granddaughter Kinzy. He leaves behind his daughter, Sherry Metts (Bill); his sons, Rick Burkett (Sharon), and Terry Burkett (Dina); his grandchildren: Kristy, Christopher, Tad, Andrea, Brett, Kaitlynn, and Ashley; as well as 5 great grandchildren.
The family would like to especially thank Jimmy and Denise along with the Lexington Agape Hospice House care team for the love and care they provided to Mr. Matthew in his final days.
Services will be held at Thompson Funeral Home in Lexington, SC on Dec. 10, 2020 at 11 am. Visitation will begin at 10 am prior to the service with a committal service to follow at Celestial Memorial Gardens with full Military Honors.
