Obituary of Geraldine "Jerry" Ida Rowell Cook

Geraldine “Jerry” Ida Rowell Cook of Lancaster, SC passed away peacefully on Monday, November 30, 2020, at the age of 87. 

 

Jerry was born on April 19, 1933, in Charleston, SC to the late Charles Edward and Ida Beech Rowell. She was a member of Mount Hebron United Methodist Church in West Columbia. She was a loving mother, Mama, GG, aunt, and friend. Jerry’s most cherished times were those spent with her late husband, Dale, and their five children. She never met a stranger and always had a smile for those she met.

 

Jerry met Dale in 1948, when they were both students at Charleston High School, in Charleston, SC. They were married on July 23, 1950. During their nearly 70 years of marriage, Jerry followed Dale as he moved his family several times during his career. She always made every house a home; whether that was in Charleston, Wadley or Camak, Georgia, West Columbia, Rock Hill, or Chapin. Jerry always put her family first and her greatest joy was being a homemaker and mother. Although she was not a career woman, once her children were of school age, she did venture out and work some outside of the home.

 

Jerry is survived by daughter, Wendy C. Wilson (Jack) of North; daughter, Fran C. Thurman (Chuck) of Columbia; daughter, Amy C. Pettit of Lancaster; son, M. Joseph Cook (Maryann) of Long Beach Township, NJ; and daughter, Tracy C. Huddleston (Jonathan) of Lone Star; six grandsons, four granddaughters, and three great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Dale Cook, Jr.; grandson, Charles Justin Wilson; brothers, James Rowell, William Rowell; and sister, Julia R. Walker.

 

A private family service will be held on Thursday, December 3rd at Mount Hebron United Methodist Church, West Columbia, SC. Burial will follow at Woodridge Memorial Park, Lexington, SC.
