Tonya Denise "Toni" McGill

Obituary of Tonya Denise "Toni" Dawkins McGill

Tonya Denise Dawkins “Toni” McGill, 51, of Lexington, beloved mother of two and wife of Brian Eugene McGill, entered eternal life on November 6, 2020.

Born in Columbia July 11, 1969, she was the daughter of the late Edward B. and Patsy R. Miller Dawkins. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, November 12th in the Chapel at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Rd., with interment to follow at Southland Memorial Gardens. The Reverend Don Turner will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family will receive friends after the service at Round Hill Baptist Church, 230 Persimmon Lane, Lexington.

Toni was a 1987 graduate of Brookland-Cayce High School and later married the love of her life, Brian.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who instilled the love of family to everyone she met. The moments she treasured the most were the moments she spent with her grand-daughter, Scarlett, who was and will remain a lighting beacon in our lives. We can only hope that through this tragedy the sweet girl that Nannie raised will be an embodiment of what we as a family have strived to bring, Love. We will miss her infectious smile that would light up a room. Toni had a servant’s heart and cared for many people in addition to her family. She was a true homemaker with many talents of sewing, gardening, wood working and anything else she put her mind to. Besides the immense love for her family, she loved the lake and fishing for striper. Toni was a member of Round Hill Baptist Church.

In addition to her loving husband of 31 years, she is survived by a son, Brian Cameron McGill (Tori) of Gilbert; a daughter, Carlie Denise McGill of Lexington; one granddaughter, Scarlett Blake McGill; two sisters, Norma Jean Dawkins of Lexington and Linda Ganey (Randy) of Swansea; three brothers, Edward E. “Gene” Dawkins (Sara) of Belton, TX, Dennis F. Dawkins (Lynn) of West Columbia and R. Dwayne Dawkins (Karen) of Cayce. She is also survived by her father and mother-in-law, Jerry and Linda B. McGill, as well as many extended family members and loving friends. In addition to her parents, Toni was preceded in death by her sister, Sandra M. Harwell.
