Obituary of Eleanor Fulmer Dunlap

On Thursday, October 22, 2020, Eleanor Louise Fulmer Dunlap transitioned from her earthly life of 90 years into her eternal life with her Heavenly Father. She was at last reunited with her beloved husband, Maurice, alongside a host of loved ones gone before her including parents, the late Matthew Stack and Ione Hamm Fulmer, brother Ray Fulmer, sister Virginia Bouknight and son-in-law, Larry W. Lindler.

Eleanor was born on November 11, 1929 in Prosperity, SC. She married Maurice, the love of her life on September 16, 1951. She was employed as a secretary at Transfiguration Lutheran Church where she also served as the president for the LCW (Lutheran Church Women) and worked as an office manager and secretary at the Finlay House where she shared and provided her joy and love to their elderly residents. Eleanor is survived by her sister Elizabeth Manus and brothers Harold (Ola Mae) Fulmer and Edgar (JoAnn) Fulmer. Her legacy and memories to forever be cherished are left to her children Janice (Doug) Swanson, Sandra Lindler and Maurice “Edwin” (Dorrie) Dunlap, Jr.; grandchildren, Stephen (Ashley) Swanson, Hope Swanson, Kevin (Ashley) Lindler, Crystal Lindler, Ashley (Michael) Coney, Matthew Dunlap, Christian Dunlap and Sarah Joy Dunlap; seven great-grandchildren.

Eleanor embodied a godly Proverbs 31 woman; a trustworthy, humble, kind and thoughtful provider who loved the Lord and taught her children that “hate” was an unacceptable four-letter word. You can dislike and you can disagree but you cannot hate. With seeds sown and vegetables cared for with love by Maurice, she always prepared a large feast for the ever growing family that gathered to celebrate each occasion. Her son, daughters, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren had a favorite dish of hers and she was sure to not disappoint in her preparation. When it came time to serve, she did not rest. She sat before the first of many prepared dishes and presented a plate with the most genuine smile, soft spoken and loving words to each family member, friend and guest until everyone was served- even those who came back for seconds. She was last to eat and she wouldn’t have it any other way. She celebrated and shared joy in telling stories and we were all well fed.

In her last days, Eleanor was looking forward to moving from her temporary home to a room so lovingly prepared by her children at Lexington Place Assisting LIving. God had different plans, and with his own timing. Jesus said through John 14:2-4 “My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I’m going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” We know that Eleanor has been greeted by Jesus and he has handed her a plate.
