Obituary of Mary Lenora Long Brown

Services for Mary Lenora (Long) Brown will be held at 10:00am on Monday, September 28, 2020, at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, officiated by Steve Allen and Rocky Purvis.  Mary may be viewed at Thompson Funeral Home 30 minutes prior to the service.  Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery immediately following the service.  

Mary, daughter of the late Daniel and Lenora Long, was born August 27, 1930.   She grew up in Columbia in a sweet, loving, caring and Christian home.  Mary was part of the graduating class of 1947 at Dreher High School. She attended Winthrop College from 1947-1949.  She transferred to USC her junior year where she received her BA in education. Mary was a lifetime member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.  

Mary was a stewardess with Delta Airlines during the 50’s and part of the 60’s.  After several close calls, she returned home to become a teacher in the elementary school system.   

Mary enjoyed yearly reunions and always loved seeing old friends. She loved her family, friends, church, bible classes, painting, reading, her Lake Murray home, traveling, and especially enjoyed going on cruises.  

Mary loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, whom she accepted as Lord of her life at an early age. Mary was a member of Northside Baptist Church and the “Shepherd” Sunday school class. 

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Martin L. Brown.
