Obituary of Richard "Stanley" Shumpert
Richard "Stanley" Shumpert, 83, of Gaston, South Carolina, son of the late George W. and Sarah Lexie (Baughman), passed away peacefully at home with his loved ones by his side on Monday, September 14, 2020.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Willene Barbara Ann Wise Shumpert; their two daughters, Sherry Kay Geddings and Neita Fay Whetstone; one son, Ricky Allen Shumpert; granddaughters, Lauren BreAnna (Rob) Garman, Shayla Danielle (Jonathan) Sessoms; grandson, William Wesley Whetstone (Danielle); great granddaughters Kaylin Aubree and Kylie June Sessoms, Anastin Reese Garman; and one sister, Lynne Rae (Don) Johnson, of Gaston.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Louise (Robert) Vining, Lynette (Theron) Yonce and Shirley (Charles) Backman; and three brothers, George E. (Elaine), Charles W. (Jean) and A.B. Shumpert.
Stanley was born and raised in West Columbia, where he was very well known and respected. He owned Shumpert's Carpet Service and Installation, co-owned Shumpert's Mobile Home Sales, and financed mobile home/land packages. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, as well as a dear friend to all who had the honor of knowing him. He was a proud member of the United Neighbors of America as well as an avid deer hunter alongside his wife.
Visitation will take place from 6-8 pm on Friday, September 18, 2020 at Thompson Funeral Home at Lexington.
The funeral service will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Thompson Funeral Home at Lexington with burial to follow at Southland Memorial Gardens.
Wesley Whetstone, Jonathan Sessoms, Rob Garman, Josh Shumpert, Brandon Yonce, Justin Harsey, and Mickey Smithart will serve as pallbearers. Family and members of the UNA will serve as honorary pallbearers.
