Obituary of Suzanne Higgs Stroman

WEST COLUMBIA – Suzanne Higgs Stroman, 77, died June 5, 2020.  Born in Dublin, Georgia, she was the daughter of late Alex O. (Pete) Higgs and Sally Sharpe Higgs.  She completed her bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southern University, a master’s degree from the University of Georgia and a PhD from the University of South Carolina.  Having served as professor at University of South Carolina for 33 years, she retired with the title Distinguished Professor Emeritus.

Mrs. Stroman is preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, William F. Stroman.  Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Courtney and Michael Hutchins and three grandchildren: Mills Stroman Hutchins, Elizabeth Elliott Hutchins and Harrison Woods Hutchins; three sisters: Olivia NeeSmith, Alexa (Earl) Lewis and Martha Moody; a nephew, Alex Moody and several nieces.

A graveside service will be held on Friday June 12 at 4:00 p.m.at Southland Memorial Gardens in West Columbia, SC.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Platt Springs United Methodist Church, the South Carolina chapter of Susan G. Komen, and the American Heart Association.
