Obituary of Virginia Beth "Penny" Thornton

Virginia Beth “Penny” Thornton, 80, of Columbia, SC passed away Saturday, December 21, 2019 in Columbia, SC. She was born to Dave and Aileen (Scott) Pennington on May 17, 1939 in Columbia, SC. She married Thomas Thornton on January 10, 1959 in Columbia SC. Penny worked as a real estate agent and broker for many years in the Columbia area. She loved practicing her artwork and served as a member and chair of Dincomatz.

Penny is survived by her husband, one son, Thomas III (Mary) Thornton; one daughter, Emily Thornton; and one granddaughter, Olivia. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A celebration of Penny’s life memorial service will be on Monday, December 23, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Sherwood Forest Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 4325 Wilmot Ave, Columbia, SC 29205. Mr. Russ Harless and Rev. Ronald Beard will officiate. Burial will be at a later date.

Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park is assisting the family.
