Obituary of Marlene Egilda Coburn

Marlene Coburn, 80, of Lexington, SC, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019 at Lexington Medical Center.  She was born on February 4, 1939; the daughter of the late James Gonzales and Gilda Cole.

Marlene graduated from Glassport High School in 1957 and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 1994 at Choffin Career Center in Youngstown, OH.  Because of her overwhelming compassion and caring heart, the majority of her career was spent caring for Alzheimer’s and Dementia patients. 

Marlene enjoyed singing, dancing, crossword puzzles, which she said kept her mind sharp, and playing cards.  She loved people and met new friends wherever she went.  Her greatest pleasures came from spending time with family and friends.  She will be most remembered for the care and unconditional love she gave.

Marlene leaves to cherish her memories and traditions, her son, Anthony Mordecki; her 2 daughters, Dina Wivagg, Linda Iamurri (Anthony); 7 grandchildren, Michael Iamurri,(Tiffany), Jill Iamurri, Jill Krell,(Brandon), Gina DiCarlo,(Dennis), Jamie Gasaway, Felicia Mordecki, Johnny Mordecki; 11 great-grandchildren, Melissa, Selena, Hailey, Sophie, Hannah, Isabella, Dennis Jr, Zion, Audrey, Gabriel, Bella; and 2 step great-grandchildren, Kiley and Konner. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, late husband, Gene Coburn, daughter, Teresa Bumgarner (Stuart), and son-in-law, William Wivagg.

Family and friends will be received at Thompson’s Funeral Home, 200 State St. West Columbia, SC on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. with service immediately following at 11:00 am. The burial will be at 12:00 p.m. at Celestial Memorial Gardens on Delree St., in the chapel. 

The family would like to acknowledge the care and compassion the staff at Lexington Medical Center showed Marlene in her last hours.
