Obituary of JoAnn C. Derr

 

JoAnn C. Derr, age 84, of Elgin, South Carolina, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at Agape Hospice after a stroke on August 4th. JoAnn is survived by her only daughter Barbara Grice and husband Dwight Faulling.

Services will be held at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 2666 Highway 1 S. Elgin, South Carolina at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 20th with Pastor Ken officiating. The family will receive family and friends following the service.

JoAnn was born on October 24, 1934 in Plant City, Florida, the daughter of Albert J. Crews and Marie Florence Branch. She graduated from Williston-Elko High School in 1952 and completed technical training as an accountant.

She married Gerald L. Grice and after 27 years of marriage he passed away in 1983. She later retired and married Clinton O. Derr of Elgin, South Carolina. They were married 20 beautiful years and traveled the United States and Canada. They were avid dancers and enjoyed countless dances at the Midlands Senior Center.

In addition to her daughter and son-in-law; she is survived by her brother, Kenneth Crews and his wife Barbara as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

JoAnn was an active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church for 19 years before moving to the Village at Southlake after the passing of her husband in 2015. She continued to be active in church and outreach to the community. JoAnn is remembered for her acts of kindness and willingness to help others.

The family would like to thank the staff of Lexington Medical Center (8th Floor) and Agape Hospice Lexington for their kindness and compassion. The family would also like to thank the loving staff of the Village at Southlake for countless happy memories.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Hillcrest Baptist Church.
