Obituary of Ophelia Moss Freeman

Ophelia "Pete" Moss Freeman, born May 11, 1934 passed away peacefully with family beside her on August 5, 2019.  Born in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late Henry Boyd Moss and Nellie Lee Davis Moss, she was known to all as "Pete."  She is a graduate of Central High School.  She is predeceased by her husband, William Franklin Freeman, Sr.  They were married for almost 50 years.  She is rejoicing to be reunited with him and her late family members.

Known most as mother and grandmother, Pete also worked at the University of South Carolina in Columbia.  She was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church in Denver, NC, active in the prayer group, volunteering there and at Amy's House.  She loved to garden, especially tending to her gardenias and roses.  She also enjoyed having many bird feeders up to watch the birds, fishing and spending time with our dog, Frankie.  She was lively, bold and a little feisty - and loved her family, friends and God fiercely.

She is survived by her two sons: William F. Freeman, Jr. and his wife, Patricia A. Freeman; Kendrick B. Freeman and his wife, Michelle H. Freeman; her grandchildren: Hamilton F. Roberts and her husband, J. Matthew Roberts; T. Hampton Freeman; William K. Freeman and his wife, Emily S. Freeman; Davis G. Freeman; and one great-grand-daughter, who she smiled for the most and the last, Grier E. Roberts.  She is also survived by her sister, Maedeanne Mull; brother-in-law, Ralph T. Freeman; and sister-in-law, Linda S. Nichols.

Her graveside service will be held on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Columbia, SC.  Memorials can be made to Unity Presbyterian Church,  8210 Unity Church Road, Denver, NC 28037 or a charity of one’s choice.
