Obituary of Lawrence Bernhard Simonson

Lawrence Bernhard Simonson passed away at the age of 82 on July 25th, 2019.  He was born September 1, 1936 in Long Island, NY; the son of Theodorie and Frieda Curschmann Simonson.  Lawrence graduated from Wilson High School in June of 1954, and went on to serve in the Armed Forces after graduation. He completed tours in Korea, Vietnam, and Germany.  He married his wife of 58 years, Margot Lamprecht, on August 20, 1958 in Berlin, Germany.  Lawrence retired from the U.S. Army in 1977, and then he continued to work and retired from the U.S. Post Office.

Lawrence enjoyed traveling, and time spent with family and friends.  He always had a smile on his face, and a kind word to say.  His laughter, wisdom, and sense of humor will be missed.  He was a lifelong collector of military insignias, which he started collecting at the age of 9.  He attended Memorial Chapel on Fort Jackson for 35 years.

Lawrence is survived by his son, Larry Simonson (Darlene) of Clay Center, KS; his daughter, Barbara McDaniel of Gaston, SC; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Margot, and his granddaughter, Nikki Holbert.

Graveside services with US Army honors will be held at 9:00 AM on Friday, August 16th,  at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, SC
