Obituary of Marguerite Duncan Wadford
Mrs. Marguerite Duncan Wadford entered into rest on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Rice Estate. Born in Easley, SC, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Beulah Duncan. After graduating from Travelers Rest High School, she was selected to participate in the Army Air Corp Nurses Training Program at the South Carolina State Hospital in Columbia. Being in Columbia allowed Marguerite to meet her future husband, Troy Wadford, and they married in 1948. Their nearly 67 year marriage was a testimony to their lifelong teamwork and family. She and Troy worked together operating the Columbia Truck Terminal for Dance Freight Lines and later she worked at Baptist Hospital as a ward clerk and nursing services secretary.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wadford was predeceased by her son, Troy Anthony Wadford; her husband, Troy C. Wadford; two brothers, Avery Duncan and J.C. Duncan.
She is survived by a son, Thomas “Tommy” Wadford (Cathie); two grandsons, Chad Anthony Wadford (Mary Kathryne) and Brett Austin Wadford (Keyton); and three great-grandsons, Troy Wadford, Owen Mills and Finley Wadford; and one brother, Carl Duncan of Ohio.
The family will receive friends for a visitation at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be held at Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 W. Dunbar Rd, West Columbia, SC 29170.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Epworth Children’s Home, 2900 Avenue, Columbia, SC 29205.
