Obituary of James Lavern Cooper

James Lavern Cooper, 68, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 22, 2019, surrounded by family and friends.  Lavern was born in Horry County on August 4, 1950 to the late James and Evelyn Cooper. 

Lavern was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving as a Seabee in the Vietnam War.  He retired from International Paper in 2014.  Lavern loved carpentry and masonry and spent his free time woodworking and completing random projects. He was a very devoted family man and was the best husband, father, Papa and uncle anyone could hope for. His smile and great sense of humor will be greatly missed.

Mr. Cooper is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Carol Cooper; daughter, Ashley Tharin (Andrew); grandson, Ace Tharin; sister, Mae Strickland (Benjamin); and brother, Charles Cooper, along with several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2019 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, 200 State Street, West Columbia, South Carolina

The family wishes to thank Heartstrings Hospice for the love, compassion and excellent patient care given to Lavern over the past 18 months.
