Deloris Crawford

Obituary of Deloris Avon Jeffcoat Crawford

Deloris Avon Jeffcoat Crawford, 84, of Gilbert, SC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 21, 2019. She defined what it meant to be a Godly matriarch. She came from a broken home and had to drop out of high school when she was 13-years-old to get a job to help support her mother and two younger brothers. Through those struggles, she became determined to one day give her children a better life. Deloris and her beloved husband, Kingfish, of 38 years vowed to teach their children the meaning of unconditional love and how to fight the battles in this life through faith and prayer.

Sundays were always reverenced as the Lord’s Day in the Crawford house. As her seven children walked out the door for church, she put a quarter into their little hands for the offering plate. As each child began to work, it became their responsibility to provide their own offering to the Lord. She taught her children that household chores were not paid positions but rather a responsibility to serve the family out of love. She loved to cook and to bake for her family. Mealtimes were the highlight of each day for family and friends as they gathered to give thanks and to enjoy each other and Momma’s good cooking. Even after the children married and the children’s children married, they continued to gather frequently.

Once upon a time, high school diplomas were esteemed as college diplomas today. Her dream was for her children to have the opportunity to earn a high school diploma. She understood the importance of leading by example, so she backed up her desire for her children by going to night school to complete her high school diploma. As her grandchildren grew, it overjoyed her to watch them as they earned undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Her legacy of love will live on in the hearts of her children Beverly Bell (Ernie); Barbara Freeman (Jack); Cindy Camp; Gail Wright; Kenny Crawford (Teresa); Rocky Martin (Steve); Kathy Shady (Stan); grandchildren, Tripp (Melissa), Shannon (Jason), Misty (Brian), Jack, Blake (Simmie), Danielle (Jason), Jamie (Tim), Justin (Nicole), Jennifer (David), Stephanie, Josh, Steve (Tammy), Amanda (Mark), Sara, Shawn (Vicky), Travis (Meagan), and Craig (Cassie); great grandchildren Aubrey, Delaney, Evelinn, Hadley, Kenley-Grace, Liza, Millie, Savannah, Brian, Bryson, Carson, Colton, Corbin, Declan, Eli, Ethan, Gabe, Graham, Grayson, Mason, Owen, Maddox, Shawn, Tai, Tristan, Samantha, Riley, Holland, Jackson, and McCall; brother Malcom Jeffcoat.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Kingfish” Crawford; parents, Claudia and Woodrow Jeffcoat; brother, Elvin Jeffcoat; son in-laws, Jimmy Wright and Danny Camp; great grandchildren, Adley and Benjamin Rekers.
